How to Build a Character

Step 0 - Introduction

Hello there!
Im sure some people wonder what exactly this guide is about, and I will explain.

When you started(or start) RO for your first time, I bet you money you would start off with a Novice with scrambled or maybe allround stats, right?
If you played other MMORPG's Im sure you are used to having a little Intelligence here, a little Agility there, but since you wanna make a Fighter, you will have more Strength than anything, so say you want a Swordsman, you probably start out with stats like;
Str 8
Agi 5
Vit 6
Int 2
Dex 6
Luk 4

Or something like that, but as you play out the game, you will learn that its actually better to have more focused stats.
To become a Vitality knight, your stats actually start out more like this;
Str 9
Agi 1
Vit 9
Int 1
Dex 9
Luk 1

Or something like that.

One very important thing to make a strong, fast levelling and money making character is in fact; A strong build.

Its very, very easy to screw up a build, and I know on this forum there are tons of builds to read about, but this Guide is not a guide for that, actually its a guide for how to do the work before even making your character into a Novice, I will try teach you how to build a solid base for your character...

Step 1 - What Class?

If you want to figure out what class to play, and stick to, I suggest you find out about the 2-1 and 2-2 classes, not the first classes, plan ahead, and find out what you want the result to be.
Do you want to be a Thief? Fine, but let me ask you; what will you change into once youre high level enough with your thief?
An Assassin? Or maybe a Rogue?
Well, unless you want to be weak the rest of your time, or to prevent your next job class to be weak, plan ahead your future career.
-Swordsman class can change into: Knight(2-1) Crusader(2-2)
-Thief class can change into: Assassin(2-1) Rogue(2-2)
-Acolyte class can change into: Priest(2-1) Monk(2-2)
-Merchant class can change into: Blacksmith(2-1) Alchemist(2-2)
-Mage class can change into: Wizard(2-1) Sage(2-2)
-Archer class can change into: Hunter(2-1) Bard/Dancer(2-2)
Every second class are unique, so plan ahead!

Note: Each class are very different from each other, I strongly suggest you take the test on the iRO webpage to find out your style.

Step 2 - What Build?

Each second class have unique playing styles, even if their originate from the same first class, even if you chose to be, say an Acolyte, the Priest and Monk class are incredible different from each other, so make sure that before you make say - a Monk, make sure you got a plan for what stats you want him/her to have, because once you set your skill/stat points - there is no turning back!

Note:
Read a forum, ask around, ask friends, or start a character ingame to make some research on what build would suit you ;D
Also, some builds require a large amount of zeny to be at its top, so try do some price research as well.

Step 3 - What Look?

To me, my looks in RO is important, I want to look the way I want, because I will stick around with my char for quite long(hopefully)
I dont care what other people think of my looks, but I DO care what I think of my char.
Some people like to edit as much as possible on their character personalize them, Im one of them, and I know alot of people do too.

After you figured what Job you want, and what Stats and Build you want for him/her, its time to find your look and style.

Example: My assassin, which is my pride in ro, has the hairstyle I like the best, and a color to match his clothings.
My name is also one that I like, as I seriously cant play a char named ]P00pBeAr298[ or something like that.
Its ok if you dont mind, but you wouldnt read this anyway, right?

Step 4 - Name thy character

Yes, name your character, and you know what? Ill run the same thing as above:

Now, what name would you like to have?
Im sure that if you do care what name you have, it should suit your class.
I wont list any names tho, as every person have their own name style, I, for a instance like names ending with "el"
Refasuel,Ethriel,Efrael,Sephrael,Ramiliel,Uriel,Ka zrael, you name it.
Most of my chars have an "el" ending, simply because to me that sounds good, and thats what matters.

I strongly suggest you avoid using cussing in your name, simply by 2 reasons:
1. It may be offending to some people.
2. Your GM can ban your *** for inapropriate names.

Thats one of the things I thought of after I posted it

Reason I made it mainly is because I see how many, just in my guild allways ask me what starts to take at lv 30++
They arent complete nubs at all, its just that a lot of em are very impulsive, making a class swiftly and then think of stats :P

Nah, dont care about sticky and all that, I just really like to write guides, tho this is one of the firsted I posted, I have a folder w various writings I dont put up because they have been made 3237289372 times.

Well, if you insist: Vit Knight can also have 9 str,agi and dex, but what for? I allways wondered.

He means that it's impossible to start out with those stats since they oppose eachother.

I'm one of the people that screwed up royally. >_<

This is a very handy little guide though. I wish I had seen it earlier. It is true though, I didn't really look into forums and such until after I already had a character. Oops!

I have a quickie question (I'm just full of these!) in the character simulator, it has job options that I've never seen. It doesn't even show them on the iRO website.
Are certain jobs only on pRO, or things like that?

Cause that sucks man! Several of those jobs looked really sweet. I don't get why they aren't on iRO, of course, I dont know why certain maps aren't either. *shrug*

I'm not hip to the Ragnarok groove I guess.

Well if you are referring to the RagnarokCS, the Mercenary and Spearman(and GM) is just for show, they were never implemented(or arent yet) so dont plan making a Spearman in iRO
